Shaheewa believes in community service and in 2009, she received a certificate in Non-Profit Management from Duke University. Because of her desire to help the next generation, Shaheewa founded the Youth Survivors Foundation Inc. (YSFI), a 501(c)(3) non-profit, which provides mentorship, educational and life skills support to at-risk youth between the ages of fifteen and twenty-five throughout Broward County, Florida. The nonprofit has also awarded over $20,000 in educational scholarships to students in Broward and Miami-Dade Counties.
She currently serves as the Vice President for the League of Women Voters of Broward County and Community Outreach Coordinator. She is a former Board Member of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida, the Advisory Committee for the Miami Dade College School of Community Education, and has served a child advocate for the Guardian Ad Litem program and as the Vice President of Operations for the Urban League of Broward County’s Young Professional Network.
